Hilton Head Houdini Escape Room

As we approach our anniversary, my wife Susan and I are feeling the need for a break from our daily routine. We decide to take a last-minute trip to Hilton Head Island, searching for a dog-friendly bed and breakfast on the nearby island. However, things quickly become complicated when we realize that boarding our dogs is not an option.

Our Miniature Schnauzer, Scout, has taken a liking to our new temporary addition, Ollie, a 13-pound Jack Russell/Shih Tzu mix with a snaggle-toothed mug. But little did we know, Ollie had a few tricks up his sleeve - or rather, out of his collar.

As I'm running through the Fort Screven parade grounds on Tybee Island, wondering how this happened and what direction Ollie might have run in, I'm struck by the chaos and stress that has ensued. It's as if we've entered a real-life escape room, with Ollie as the Houdini of Hilton Head.

But why did it all go wrong? How did we end up here, searching for a dog that seems to have vanished into thin air? The answer lies in the unlikeliest of places - our own backyard. Or rather, my wife's soft spot for strays and good deeds gone awry.

As I continue to shout for Ollie in vain, I can't help but wonder what other surprises this trip has in store for us. Will we find our furry friend before the night is over? Only time will tell in this real-life game of hide-and-seek on Hilton Head Island.
